How Much Time Ya Got?

Story by Scotty Gray.

I was just thinking…about prayer…and time.

I’ve often spoken about how, to God, time and space are irrelevant.

I remember watching the 2003 movie starring Jim Carrey; Bruce Almighty.  In one scene, as he listens to Bruce’s complaints, God, played by Morgan Freeman, tells Bruce that he will be endowed with all godly power.  Yeah!!!

So, Bruce goes around making fire hydrants shoot water, walks on water, parts the tomato soup in his bowl, and other godly stuff…but on to bigger things: running all of human existence.  which means, addressing prayers.

At one point, Bruce has to address the millions of prayers coming in nonstop.  Barely touching the tip of the prayer iceberg in his responses, he gives up and sends the answer “yes” to everyone.  The result?  Pandemonium!  With one click, Bruce uses his godly power to give everyone what they want.  As you’d expect, that doesn’t work out quite so well.  The problem with us humans – we’re a little-short-sighted… and that’s why we’re not God.  You see, it takes a little more – O.K., a lot more – than one human lifetime to see how things work and work with each other.

Now, admittedly, it’s hard for us to understand how the cancer-caused death of a child we love, for example, could possibly be a good thing within God’s overall plan.  That’s when we have to understand that sin has tainted this world, ushering in suffering and death, but here’s how the “I can see the end from the beginning” God can help us understand.  It is my firm belief that each of our souls – who we really are – is protected by God, and thus are taken by Him to the perfection of eternity, until we reach the age of decision, when we get to choose between eternity with or without Him.  Again, our problem here is our short-sightedness.

So, here’s the cool point to all of this; because of God’s timelessness and “spacelessness,” He is able to take as much time as you need to share your cares, concerns, needs and praises, and He’s able to give you His undivided attention, without taking a millisecond away from hearing all of my stuff, and that other person’s stuff, and another person’s, and every other persons stuff…

…and not only does He have the time, He’s got nowhere else to be, ‘cuz He’s got the rest of eternity to give attention to that comet 75 billion light years away.  I know it’s hard for us to have Godly perspective, so it’s pretty nice that He already has it.

Thus, if you ever feel that God isn’t listening because He’s too busy, or asleep, or distracted by some issue bigger than yours, forget that – the Creator of all that exists, is waiting for you to spend time with Him.  So load Him up, and then allow Him to take care of things.  It may seem like an eternity, and a lot of bad stuff may happen between now and when you go home to be with Him, BUT remember, once you’re there, you may not remember anything that happened while you were here, because you’ll be too busy enjoying the real eternity, as long as you want, and then some.

I’m scotty…and that’s something I was just thinking.
